That doesn't happen if I open my HD and click on the doc, but that's too slow! Excel sticks a number on the end of my title if I click on the dock icon. When saving, I remove the number so that I'm replacing the document in my HD with the one that has my changes. I'm used to saving as I go to avoid losing a lot of hard work. Guess I'll learn to be more careful. And you're correct in that my files aren't in the Documents directory.:-) Just tried to open one of my Excel spreadsheets from Documents.
Apple tried to put me into Numbers. I love Apple, but there's no way I'm going to switch from an Excel format to any of the Numbers formats since I've been using Excel and writing my own formulae since 1998. I'll keep my Excel spreadsheets out of Documents.
